my tuesday.

because i am the nostalgia queen, and because i woke up far too early, this is what i did with my morning. i give you, the two childhood obsessions i have re-discovered..

california dreams (1992-1997) was a saved by the bell knock-off. one of those b-list nbc saturday morning teenage melodrama sitcoms. but this one was different.. these guys were IN A BAND. they championed some brilliant songs, such as "too much to dream last night," and "someone to hold on to."

so as a nine-year old, i was obsessed. especially with the on-again, off-again romance between bad-boy jake (far right) and surfing environmentalist tiffini (blonde, dead center). for awhile there, jake dated sexy rich girl lorena (second from left) but i always knew he'd go back to tiff. jake was, perhaps, the first boy i ever had a crush on. he was sensitive, but he wore a leather jacket. he played guitar, and he didn't smoke because he saw his favorite uncle diagnosed with lung cancer in a very special episode.
jake sommers > ac slater. all's i'm saying.

so if you ever find yourself craving some early 90's slow jams, go to youtube. for your introduction, i've included the theme song below. enjoy.

also..

duh. okay so i'm not sure exactly how or when i was first shown a SHR video.. probably like, language arts in 3rd grade. all i know, is that i used to rent the tapes of my own personal volition and watch them at home for fun. i borrowed the full collection dvd from seth's apartment and secretly watched some of my favorites. i am partial to 'america rock' and 'grammar rock.' i just feel like the other ones kind of lack the same punch. in case you're wondering what my favorite numbers are, 'interjections!' 'elbow room' (about the louisiana purchase), and 'no more kings' (about the pilgrims).

this one's called 'the great american melting pot.' it's about immigrants.

nerd, party of one?
